George Okaty

George had a forty-five-year career in law enforcement, security, and safety administration that began when he was hired as a police officer at the University of Connecticut where he received his bachelor’s degree.  He went on to get his Master of Public Administration Degree at the University of Hartford. His career continued in Pennsylvania and Texas where he worked at a community college, university, an art museum, and a healthcare system before moving to Virginia as Director of Safety and Security for the Tidewater Community College before his retirement.

George was an adjunct instructor at the University of Texas San Antonio and authored professional articles for the Police Chief Magazine, Security Management, Campus Law Enforcement Journal, and other periodicals. He was a regular book review contributor to the Security Management magazine and authored chapters for professional books for the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS).

In retirement, George has done security management consulting and volunteers some of his time to support Hampton Roads Writers and their efforts to develop literary programs to the community.
