A Dark and Stormy Opening: How to Begin your Work—A good editor can spot a skillful writer in one paragraph. Almost no one in publishing reads more than 10 pages unless he is captivated by the story. Beginnings are vital—no one ever gets past the bad ones. This workshop discusses the structure of novels and short stories and how to begin them for maximum effect.
