SHOW AND GROW your PROSE with Professional Critiques

FREE and open to the public

Donít miss this opportunity to read ten minutes of your prose** (short story, memoir, or novel chapter ONLY) to the audience, followed by brief professional critiques by our guest critiquer and by the moderator (usually Lauran Strait). Only 6-7 readings per session; see below how to register.

Anyone may listen as part of the audience, BUT if you want to share you work, registration is required. Registration is accomplished in two parts when you (1) email your work as a .doc or .docx file, and (2) when you receive confirmation that a slot is still available. When sending your work, please indicate the date of the event at which you would like to share your work. The reading spots are filled on a first come/first serve basis and are expected to fill up quickly.

Document Formatting:
  • 12-point or larger font, Times New Roman or Courier only

  • 1-inch margins

  • DOUBLE SPACED, properly indented paragraphs, with no blank line left between paragraphs

  • Page numbers as part of the header in the upper right corner

  • Send no more than 4-5 pages of work; this is all that can be read at an understandable pace in the 10-minutes allotted to you. PLEASE PRACTICE READING YOUR WORK ALOUD and time yourself. We will stop you precisely at the 10-minute mark.

Once you've emailed the work, please do not edit it anymore. You will need to read the file that you sent because it will be projected on a screen for the benefit of the audience. Any changes you make subsequent to emailing the file will create confusion for members of the audience and for the person running the laptop and projector (ME).

Please bring 2 hard copies of your work, one from which you'll read and one on which the guest critiquer will write. The hard copies will be returned to you.
