Hampton Roads Writers is a nonprofit, Virginia Beach, Virginia-based group of professional and aspiring writers, friends, and supporters of the arts who have joined together to promote the craft and passion of writing and the love of reading and literature in Virginia. We aim to encourage readers and writers of all ages and talents, as well as acknowledge and celebrate awareness of local and contemporary authors and their work. We serve as a resource to our community by creating and supporting literary events throughout the Hampton Roads area.

Though Hampton Roads Writers hasn't been in existence long, we're in the process of developing exciting programs and partnerships that will allow us to reach an ever-wider audience. Through our planned annual Literary Conference, periodic writing events, open mics, workshops, classes, our Web site, e-newsletter, and partnerships with area literacy and writing programs, HRW is helping to increase Hampton Roads' visiblity within Virginia and nationally as a region with a vibrant literary arts community.
We seek to continue to seed and develop literary events and literacy education in Hampton Roads, partnering with local universities, businesses, and cultural institutions. With a contributing board of sixteen people and permanent office, we plan and execute all of our events carefully and with an eye toward civic responsibility, longevity, and growth.
Your tax-deductible contribution will help HRW's mission to promote the craft of writing and the love of literature in our communities and beyond and to support Hampton Roads' growing standing as one of the nation's most attractive and culturally progressive communities in which to live and work.
If you would like more information or would like to arrange a meeting to discuss supporting Hampton Roads Writers, please contact Lauran Strait, our president, at 757-301-7734 or HRWriters@cox.net.
